Join Boredroom Breakouts for an experience of a lifetime as we journey to the northern region of Thailand for a holistic, authentic experience that is humanitarian-focused.
Arrive in Chiang Mai and stay in an ethical elephant sanctuary, surrounded by gentle giants as you explore the property, learn to care for the elephants, and embark on a bamboo rafting experience through the jungle.
We will transport you to Chiang Rai, where we will show you some of our favorite places - look for fun finds and delicious food at the local markets, tour stunning temples, hike to a hidden jungle waterfall and jump from the cliffs above - if you dare - into the water below!
You will meet the founder of Project Justice, and learn about the important initiatives they're working on. You will get to learn about the challenges that many local villages face, and why trafficking is such a big issue in this area. Then, you will get to work by hands-on supporting Project Justice and the children and young adults in their care. We will be visiting one of the local villages where one of the prevention projects exists, and support their vocational and educational initiatives.
We will wrap up the trip with a visit to the stunning mountain range of Phu Chi Fa, where we will stay in bungalows and view the sunset and sunrise as the clouds play with the mountains!
ABOUT PROJECT JUSTICE:
Child traffickers have one purpose: to exploit the young for their own gain. They prey on vulnerable people groups, families in the grip of desperate poverty and hardship. They use force, coercion and deception to procure young lives. They take children away from their families, sometimes to another country, where they will know no-one. They may not even know the language.
They will have no idea how to find their way home. They will be lonely and frightened. The children may be victims of forced labor, sex trafficking and exploitation, and child pornography. They will be traumatized and abused. Without intervention, they will have no hope. Ever.
Project Justice International is a team of nationals who have spent more than a decade working with governments and international agencies to stop child trafficking. We understand how to establish successful strategies to prevent children from being lured into the vicious sex trade.
Our unique local knowledge gives us special insight into the best ways to locate and rescue trafficked children, and bring them to safety. Our partnerships with police and government agencies allow us to help bring perpetrators to justice.
To prevent children being trafficked is the ultimate solution, saving them from torment and trauma that may last a lifetime. We do this with a multifaceted approach :–
ABOUT OUR TIME WITH PROJECT JUSTICE:
We asked the founder of Project Justice what their next top need is to move their organization forward to be successful. They are working to fund a rescue home for young children rescued from the sex trafficking industry.
In our time with them, we will help work with prevention project and support hands-on work for current projects in Thailand. While there, you will get to learn more about the challenges that children are facing globally, what their next project - the safe house - looks like, and how you can continue to support this crucial mission to prevent + rescue the most vulnerable children in the most terrifying situations.
You don't have to have experience- we will work with you to help you get connected with an assignment when on site, and show you how to complete the tasks we have been assigned as a group.

Every opportunity is another chance to grow, learn, and evolve into a better version of ourselves. We believe that these trips are one of the best ways to gain perspective, grow our comfort zone, and to learn from others around us.
We will start off this trip by sharing what drew you to join this trip, and what intentions and outcomes you are desiring for this trip.
This trip combines our favourite activities at Chai Lai into an unforgettable 1 day adventure. You will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bond with elephants and visit a Kayan village where ancient traditions thrive.
Kayan women have fought against the odds to preserve their cultural heritage and unique style in the modern world. The sustainable indigenous village survives through traditional farming and foraging practices. Women use back loons to weave gorgeous textiles without any electricity or modern machinery.
Part of the day is spent caring for elephants, learning to communicate with them and swimming with them in the Mae Wang river. You will learn the elephant’s unique personalities and how to recognise them. Take a hike to walk with elephants as they forage in their beautiful natural environment. Then take in beautiful landscapes of sun-soaked rice fields and lush jungle. When you arrive at the river, you can jump in and cool off by swimming with elephants!
Lunch is served at Chai Lai Orchid cafe when you will enjoy a fresh Thai lunch that is cooked to order.
Travel Better: 100% of the proceeds from this tour benefit rescued elephants and ensure they can continue to live the rest of their lives in a sanctuary free from fear and abuse.
On this fun and educational hike, you will learn jungle wisdom from the locals about edible plants and medicinal plants. At our destination, you will be able to dip into the cool water from the waterfall!
Staying in theme with the water day, you will enjoy bamboo rafting through the jungle in the afternoon- a unique and delightful experience that will bring more welcoming cool water on a hot day!
We will gather at the end of the day to discuss the various perspectives and insights we have learned from the last 2 days, reflecting on the unique journeys we each lead. We will use this to reflect on ways we are able to apply this same mindset to others in our lives that we have had a hard time understanding, gaining insight from each other on ways to approach old situations in new ways.
Skill Development:
In Chiang Rai, we will visit a local market in the heart of down town. You can find little goodies as souvenirs, try local Hot Pot variations, and then, you will be treated to a 1 hour Thai massage!
Meet the man who started it all: Sakay!
Sakay and his team will meet with us upon arrival, so that you can learn more about this important work they're doing, and understand how our trip helps them with this mission.
Then, you will get assigned to a job and we will get to work!
A local lunch will be served on site.
We will look at our own relationship with resilience, what it means, and how we heal our unhealthy relationship with resilience.
Skill development:
After dinner, you will visit the Wat Huay Pla Kang Temple, which is a large and impressive compound nestled near Chiang Rai. This temple has a very special atmosphere that you will feel the moment you arrive.
Nicknamed "the Big Buddha", this impressive figure is actually Kuan Im, the Buddhist ‘Goddess of Mercy’. Kuan Im is an important deity in the Mahayana Buddhist pantheon. She is the “Bodhisattva of Compassion” — a being who achieved enlightenment but remained here in the physical world to help the rest of humanity do the same. She waits here at Wat Huay Pla Kang, “observing the sounds of the human world”, as she is known to do.
Phu Chi Fa could also be called "heaven on earth". It is regarded as one of the best sunrises in all of Thailand, and you will see why!
We designed this excursion to get the maximum effect: you will arrive in time to enjoy the beautiful, light air and breathtaking views, and get settled into your hut. Then, we will make the trek to the Phu Chi Fa view point in time to enjoy the stunning sunset.
In the morning, we will make the trek again, but this time in the dark as we await the glorious sunrise. We will take advantage of this ethereal time, and have a short morning session to reflect on the journey we have had over the last week and the next steps in our lives.
